One Who Is Faithful in a Very Little

There were once two who worked for a day’s wage.
The wicked servant, not knowing the master was watching,
thought it was enough just to pass the time,
and even with a small water jar
idled about and put in no real effort.
The good servant, whether anyone was watching or not, worked beyond their strength,
laboring under a large water jar.
At sundown both received the same wage,
and so the years went by.
One day the wicked servant said to the good one,
“Why do you work so hard? We are only passing the time anyway,”
sneering as they said it.
Then one day the master called them both
and made the good servant overseer of all the servants.
From that moment the overseer no longer had to carry a water jar.
The overseer said to the wicked one,
“You have deceived the master and taken your wages all this time,
so now work with a bigger water jar,”
came the order.
All who believe are given the same gifts and the same love.
But the lazy, for all they have received, only boast,
and because they are not faithful to death, their master will rebuke them.
The servant faithful beyond their strength gains not only heaven’s reward
but here on earth the power of love, the authority to drive out Satan,
abundant means, and the gift of governing souls,
all from their master,
and takes the seat of honor, always esteemed.
