The Story of the Dandelion

Not wanting them taken away, it held them closer in, and closer still.
Afraid it would look shabby and feel ashamed if it shed them,
it held them closer in, and closer still.
But a warm wind whispers, soft and small:
Let them go…
Then they will fly far, far away, and wherever they land, life will sprout.
The dandelion thought for a long, long time.
Yes, I will open my heart wide and send them off on the wind.
The moment it made up its mind, the seeds that had wrapped the dandelion round
rode the wind and flew far, far away.
But because the seeds, now out of sight, had life in them,
the dandelion already knew they would sprout, as lovely as itself.
