The Happiness of a Small Vessel

No one with a large vessel has cause for pride,
because if a large vessel is filled with water and not poured out,
or is not replenished, its water goes bad.
A small vessel dries up quickly,
but if it is not greedy, even a little rain
can always hold clean, fresh water.
If there were a vessel that was large but held foul water,
and one that was small but always clean,
to which would people gather?
Nothing is more precious than a large, clean vessel
brimming over with water,
but do not forget that a small vessel, living always
on what God supplies, is dear as well.
