Big Snowflakes and Sleet

When you see sleet falling, what do you say?
Aw, it’s just sleet. It melts right away, it’s hardly even snow—you’d say that, wouldn’t you?
And when big snowflakes come so thick you cannot see the sky, what will you say?
Wow! It’s snowing. Let’s go out and walk in it.
That’s right. Love is exactly the same.
You say you give love,
but when the one receiving it finds that love as meager and frustrating as sleet,
and snaps at you in irritation and complains of being wronged,
you will think this, won’t you?
Why am I the only one treated like this? I gave love, even if it was only sleet…
My beloved,
if you are going to give snow anyway, shouldn’t you give big snowflakes?
To cover everything dirty and ugly, all the trash,
you must pour it down patiently, without ceasing.
Just give.
Just as I cover all your faults unconditionally,
if you too keep pouring out love like big snowflakes,

If sleet melts, how much water will that make?
But when big snowflakes melt, they become a river,
