Give Only Half

When you give to someone in need, will you take the apple you have,
bite into it, and give away the rest?
Or will you give only half?
Or will you give the whole thing
and then fall into temptation and suffer hardship yourself?
If you take a bite and give the rest away,
the other will be offended and curse you.
So, cheerfully,
cut it in half, so that you have some
and the other has some too,
and give to the poor with a glad heart.
