How Will You Bear Witness to Me?

About me,
what witness can you bear?
When I hung on the cross bearing your sins,
I received no witness at all.
You could not bear witness on my behalf,
and what use would human testimony be to me?
I came of my own will to bear the cross;
I do not bear it because someone told me to,
but I take up my cross because it is my own joy.
What would people testify about me,
and if I entrusted myself to you, could you bear it?
Those who believed because they saw signs—what in them could I rely on?
Even those who say they have faith,
I know, will betray me when their lives are threatened;
how could I entrust myself to such people, and receive their witness?
