Only a True Heart

Because a snake’s tongue is split in two,
however kind the words it says,
however warm the words it gives,
because a snake’s tongue is split in two,
there is no truth in it.
Because a snake’s tongue is split in two,
though it speaks to comfort you
and talks as though it were on your side,
because a snake’s tongue is split in two,
there is no truth in it.
Coming from one source,
speaking with one voice, a true tongue
is what yours must become.
Whatever happens,
it is only with a tongue that begins in a true heart
and speaks what is true
that you can pass on the truth;
do not forget it.
