Your Outside Must Match Your Inside

When you make a doll, you first raise a sturdy pillar,
bind it with wire, cover it with clay, and dress it up beautifully.
Then, no matter who handles it, there is nothing to worry about.
But some people press a lump of clay onto a toothpick for a pillar
and boast of how quickly they made it.
Now, listen.
The two dolls look exactly alike, so no one can tell them apart;
yet there is a way to tell them apart at once: give them to a little child.
The moment it is in a child’s hands, it snaps with a crack.
Looking the same on the outside does not mean the pretense will hold.
You must be sturdy inside and out alike.
Only then will Satan be unable to touch your faith.
You may deceive people,
but do not forget that you can never deceive me, or Satan.
First raise the pillar of faith.
Then, upon that pillar,
if you lay faith on thickly with your life,
will my love not abide there?
