Which Side Do You Belong To?

When they have too much, or when they are thirsty,
people do one of two things.
Some scoop up water with a big dipper,
drink only a few sips, and throw the rest away;
others scoop up water with a small dipper,
drink as much as they need, and let others drink too.
Whoever throws it away because there is plenty, or looks after only themselves when thirsty,
does not know that their own soul is being emptied.
Just to drink a few more sips on this earth,
some grow greedy; seeing what they do,
I will be angry.
If tonight I require your soul of you,
whose will all those things be?
