People See Me as a Rainbow

People see me as a rainbow hanging in the sky.
Like a rainbow that hangs there after the rain,
they think of me only when their hearts feel fresh.
Do you think so too?
No.
I am not a rainbow that vanishes when the sun comes out;
when the sun beats down,
when the rain pours down in torrents,
even when you are adrift on the endless sea,
I am Jesus, always by your side.
Only after their prayers are answered,
or when they speak of their dreams in the colors of the rainbow,
do people look to me and delight and rejoice.
But the one who turns the prow toward land on the endless sea
is me, and they do not know it.
They only stare into their own pain
and do not look at me, holding the prow and answering them.
Under the hot sun I lead them to an oasis,
in the pouring rain I lead them to shelter, yet rather than seek me,
they think I am there only when a rainbow appears.
People in the midst of pain
do not listen well to my words that guide them onto the path of peace,
and those who worship idols in their hearts, all the more.
But you, even in hardship and trial,
must always open your ears and listen to my words.
