The One Who Carried the Cross

A single shaft of light is shining on him.
Perhaps he could be seen more clearly because he carried light.
People see his light and his miracles and go wild with excitement,
but he stands there calmly, humbler still.
For what they wanted was the world,
and there was no telling when they might start throwing stones.
Because all he had to give them was the word of truth,
he cast the word of life toward them.
But they threw that truth away,
and the one who would not give them the blessings of the world
they nailed to a cross.
