Appendix 12. The Sharing of the Mature

I think of sharing as scattering what is mine. Sharing of one’s own accord is not an easy thing, but if we think of what we have as not our own, we should be well able to do it. To break down, little by little, the square thing of mine that I thought I had made perfect—that is the sharing God wants. It will be hard, but by breaking myself I too can take on a round shape, and as my sharp edges wear away, I can give peace and laughter to those around me. If you cannot share or break yourself, and insist only on your own square thing, those beside you will be badly hurt, and that very rigidity will make your heart harder still. Sharing is the wonderful work of God by which those who scatter and give to the poor grow all the richer. Scatter what you have, and it may seem that all of it will be gone; but when you scatter and break it by faith, you will see your reward rising high beside you.
