Fulfill the Ministry You Received in the Lord

Watching the apostle Paul bring the gospel to the church at Colossae with such earnest longing, I came to think that those who believe in Christ must have a sincere faith like his. Paul had lived out the law to the letter, yet the moment he met Christ, he left everything behind and obeyed him. To throw away even one’s own life as though it were refuse is by no means easy. Even so, Paul gave up his family, and all the glory of the world besides, and lived for Christ alone. This, I believe, is the faith God looks for in his people.

As I preached through Colossians, I thought that God’s people should follow Paul’s steadfast faith. If, instead of trying to change the world and their circumstances, they first grow through the word, they can transform every place they go, just as Paul did. But because they try to remake the world, the church, and the home in their own strength, in the end they accomplish nothing. When they hold a faith that proclaims the truth boldly in every situation, Satan will attack them as fiercely as their faith is strong, yet by persevering they can overcome.

When God’s people, unswayed by the currents of the world and walking only in the way of truth, do their part wholeheartedly wherever they stand, the Kingdom of God will spread. If you give yourselves in humble service in the lowest place, God will entrust weak souls to your care and cause you to fulfill your calling according to his will. Where does your faith stand today?
